make-up

I have worked as a makeup artist on editorial, advertisement and beauty photoshoots.  As for videography, I have done makeup and hair for television, short films and music videos.  Each experience has given me the oppurtunity to diversify, develop and refine my skills. I enjoy experimenting and executing different themes; ranging from distinct eras to special effects and other unique looks. I also enjoy making makeup tutorials for my business account on the social media network Intagram where I have gained a following. Below you will find all of my work in the following order; editorial, advertisement, videography and social media.

"Sub-Rose"
Magazine Shoot

This shoot was inspired by "Makeover Madness" a Vogue magazine editorial by Steven Meisel. The aim was to highlight the extreme glamourisation of plastic surgery in today's society when in reality the recovery process is quite the opposite. By using techniques from both beauty makeup and special effects makeup I achieved these looks. A PDF of the full magazine spread may be downloaded below.

"The Assassination of Polychrome"

This shoot was inspired by 1980's fashion. "Polychrome" refers to the practice of decorating architectural elements, sculpture, clothing, etc. in a variety of colors and patterns. I researched makeup and hair from that decade and incorporated bright colours, such as blue, yellow and red.

"Fishermans
Fantasea"

This shoot was inspired by the creatures in Greek mythology known as the "Siren." These dangerous mermaid like creatures lured sailors in with their beauty and enchanting music to shipwreck thier boats on the rocky coast of their island. The aim was to create a "wet look" by gelling the hair back and adding some gloss and sparkle to the eyelids.

"Snact" promotional shoot

A promotional shoot for a company called "Snact";

a food company which creates wholesome food waste-fighting snacks such as fruit jerky and banana bars. We also filmed a promotional video which you can find below the photo gallery. I was working with multiple models, gaining experience with different facial structures and skin tones.

"Vicious Eyewear" Launch campaign shoot

A shoot for a london based sunglasses and accesories company called "Vicious Eyewear" for their launch campaign. As the sunglasses were the main focal point I really wanted to highlight them by creating more toned down and natural looks and adding just a little  a pop of colour on the lip.

"Black Vespa"
Music Video

"Black Vespa" is a song by Indie  artist LULALONG. The music video tells the story of a troubled woman, Lula, who is torn between two lovers. She deals with her issues by drinking and leading a party girl lifestyle. The aim of the makeup was to highlight the physical strains of having such a lifestyle . For Lula I created a messy "morning after" look with the illusion of heavy under eye bags. I also wanted to create a contrast betwen her two lovers, the light haired girl had more of a nude color palette while the dark haired girl had more gold and berry tones. Link for the full music video below!

"Sunday Morning"
Music Video

"Sunday Morning" is a song by  rapper Lowkey ft. singer Mai Khalil. The lyrics tell a story of two people who have lost thier children and how that grief and a lack of support can lead anyone to homelessness. Living on the streets is a very dangerous environment to be in where one can fall victim to physical abuse and other threatening situations. I did a lot of research on special effects, especially bruising and how to execute a black eye in particular, as well as aging makeup. The aim was to highlight the physical and mental strains of homelessness. Link below!

"MIA"
Graduation film

In this short drama Mia struggles between cashing her dreams and her epilepsy condition. She wants to become a dancer, however, her condition makes it difficult to perform under pressure. Her father is a cautious man who's holding her back from persueing a dance competition. She auditions anyway with the support of her little sister, Emma, and her boyfriend, Charlie. Mia is a strong character and I wanted her to have a feirce look, emphasising her facial structure and big eyes. In the audition sequence I decided to do a purple eyeshadow look as purple is the colour which represents epilepsy awareness.

"Pretty Sapphire" Graduation Film

In this teen comedy the main character, Saphie, struggles with her identity like most teenage girls. Working alongside another makeup artist, I was responsible for executing looks for 4 main characters. The mother, Clara, who appears in multiple scenes. As she's a confident character, I wanted to ensure that each "day" she had a new distinct colourful look, apart from when she had the "no-makeup makeup look" in one evening scene.  I also did makeup for the 3 "Mean Girls" Courtney, Meaghan and Tiffany. As the film is set in the early 2000s, I wanted to give each girl an individual bright eyehadow colour associated with them, much like many 2000s girl bands.

Directed by: Stephanie Amata

Produced by: Kristina Altanova

DOP: Selina L. Heilemariam

"Ruth"

For "the house project" I did makeup and hair for 2 short films. They were all based in the 1950's therefore I had to do extensive research on beauty trends during that era. It was interesting to learn and challenge myself by doing something outside of modern standards.

"Ruth" was a drama inspired by true events. Older housewives would often wear red lipstick and winged eyeliner which was a simple yet effective look.

"Sartorial Elegance" was a comedy-drama about "the Teddy boys." A British subculture of young men (and women) who wore clothing inspired by victorian styles. It was interesting to execute a more punk inspired look and play with some special effects to create a wound.

social media

I have been an avid user of social media networks and platforms since my early teens. Most of the makeup tips and tricks I've learnt and used to this day have either been from online beauty blogs or online makeup tutorials. Before I did makeup for films and photoshoots, my first client was myself. For years I practiced my skills everyday, soon I started documenting my looks and posting them to an account on the social media platform Instagram. Now I have started making makeup tutorials of my own in hopes of teaching others the techniques I've learnt throughout the years. It's my chance to get creative on the canvas I know the best, my own face!

Below you will find a selection of my tutorials as well as my live instagram feed to follow my journey.
